Argentine municipal unions clash with authorities over false accusations and dollar‑loan proposals

Union leader Mario Barberán, secretary of the waste‑collection union AOEM in Entre Ríos, held a press conference to refute a complaint alleging an attack on waste‑collection workers. He called the accusation “false, deceitful and fabricated,” saying no evidence exists and that the union has filed a counter‑complaint for false reporting and abuse of power.

In Santa Cruz, municipal workers’ union secretary Pedro Mansilla warned that a proposed external dollar‑denominated loan would be harmful to public employees. He urged the provincial legislature to open wage‑negotiation talks and criticized the lack of consultation with municipal authorities, highlighting the broader impact of inflation on workers’ purchasing power.

Both leaders highlighted grievances over labor conditions, inadequate pay, and perceived mismanagement by local governments, calling for stronger dialogue and protective measures for municipal employees.
