Argentine municipalities address urban development and climate risk

In Santa Margarita, opposition council members Gisela Caputo and Emiliano Álvarez Portep have requested that the municipality update environmental, urban, hydraulic, and infrastructure studies regarding a proposed tower complex. The project, authorized in 2022, includes seven towers, 120 apartments, and 38 commercial spaces in a residential zone. Council members emphasized the need to assess the project's viability in light of recent flooding in March 2025 and its potential impact on water networks, sewage, soil absorption, and traffic.

Meanwhile, in Capilla del Monte, the City Council has called for the urgent implementation of Ordinance No. 3332 concerning Civil Protection and Risk Management. This request follows a report regarding the El Niño phenomenon for 2026-2027, which warns of increased regional risks for significant precipitation, convective storms, and flash floods. Local authorities are being urged to activate emergency committees, inspect drainage systems, and review evacuation protocols to prepare for potential weather-related emergencies.
