Argentine municipalities expand free ophthalmological services
Municipalities in Argentina are expanding access to ophthalmological services through targeted health programs.
In La Matanza, a municipal assistance program provides retirees with medical examinations, pathology detection, surgeries, and free eyeglasses, including near, far, and bifocal lenses. More than 20,000 seniors have already benefited from these operations. Mayor Fernando Espinoza stated the initiative aims to protect visual health and provide economic relief for the elderly.
In Pilar, the “Ver bien, aprender mejor” (See well, learn better) program focuses on children. The initiative provides ophthalmological check-ups and free eyeglasses to ensure that vision problems do not hinder educational development. Recent operations have been extended to localities such as Villa Rosa to support families in need.
