Argentine municipalities implement fiscal measures amid economic pressure
Various Argentine municipalities are implementing fiscal measures to address economic instability and budget constraints.
In Avellaneda, Emmanuel Santalla has proposed an economic emergency ordinance for small and medium-sized businesses. The plan includes freezing municipal fees, exempting advertising taxes, reducing public space occupation fees by 20%, and offering interest-free debt payment plans of up to 24 installments.
In Guaymallén, the City Council unanimously approved a 10% salary reduction for Mayor Marcos Calvente, council members, and high-ranking officials. This measure, effective from October 2026, aims to address a deep budgetary crisis, though the specific reallocation of these saved funds remains unclear.
In Neuquén, the provincial government has authorized approximately 671.5 million pesos in subsidies to sustain public passenger transport services for the July-September period. This provincial funding serves to fill the gap left by the national government's elimination of the Compensatory Fund.
Meanwhile, in Lincoln, the municipality is processing payments for the ‘Comprá Local’ card and the second half of salaries for political staff, totaling 120 million pesos to stimulate local commerce despite a stagnant municipal budget.
