Argentine municipalities report salary increases and revenue shifts
In Clorinda, Mayor Ariel Caniza confirmed that the municipality will implement a 15% salary increase for municipal employees, mirroring a recent announcement by Governor Gildo Insfrán for provincial workers. The increase will be applied in three consecutive 5% installments during August, September, and October. The measure is expected to cost the municipal executive approximately $100 million and the Deliberative Council about $9 million. The administration is also seeking to include municipal retirees in this adjustment.
Meanwhile, in Concordia, local tax revenue saw a real-term decline of $465 million in July when adjusted for inflation. While the Real Estate Tax saw an increase due to administrative adjustments and tax moratoriums, the Commercial Tax—a key indicator of economic activity—fell by $184.6 million. Local business associations reported a significant downturn in the winter season, noting low hotel and gastronomic occupancy rates.
