Argentine officials face legal proceedings for alleged crimes

Two local officials in Argentina are facing judicial proceedings following allegations of criminal activity.

In Bragado, Germán Díaz, a councilman for La Libertad Avanza, has had his pretrial detention confirmed. He is under investigation for the alleged sale of drugs. His defense team is considering an appeal to the Criminal Cassation Court, potentially requesting house arrest due to his responsibility for caring for his 90-year-old mother. The local Deliberative Council is currently debating his suspension and the process for appointing a successor to his seat.

In Azul, Rodrigo David Santamaría Martini, the former president of the GEN party and former legislative secretary of the Azul Deliberative Council, remains detained at the Sierra Chica Penitentiary Unit No. 2. He is accused of involvement in eight alleged frauds. Although a judge granted him the possibility of release, he was unable to fulfill the requirement of a 120 million peso bail due to issues with the properties offered as collateral. The prosecution is seeking his continued detention while the defense seeks release, a matter now pending before the Chamber of Appeals and Guarantees.
