Argentine Ombudsman Association demands review of electricity and gas tariffs
The Association of Ombudsmen of the Argentine Republic (ADPRA) has submitted a formal request to the Ministry of Economy and the National Secretariat of Energy to review electricity and gas tariffs. The initiative seeks to improve the predictability of price increases and increase transparency regarding energy subsidies.
The proposal calls for a review of wholesale energy prices and transport charges, emphasizing the need for gradual adjustments that consider the payment capacity of households. This comes amid rising economic pressure on families; data from the Central Bank indicates that family loan delinquency reached 12.9% in July 2026, the highest level in over two decades.
Local officials, including Villa María Ombudsman Rafael Sachetto, have supported the claim, noting that many households are increasingly relying on credit and personal loans to cover essential services and food costs.
