Argentine Chamber of Deputies sets schedule for disability and debt relief
The Argentine Chamber of Deputies has approved a legislative schedule to address two critical social issues: the extension of the national disability emergency and relief for families facing extreme debt. The disability emergency, which is set to expire on December 31, will see its commissions hold an informative meeting on September 16 and issue a report on September 23.
Regarding family debt, which affects approximately 6 million people, the commissions of Finance and Consumer Defense are scheduled to hold informative meetings on September 15 and 22, with a final report due on September 29. The opposition, including blocs such as Unión por la Patria and Frente de Izquierda, successfully secured the quorum necessary to force this agenda.
In response to the legislative outcome, Karina Milei, Secretary General of the Presidency, visited the Congress to meet with La Libertad Avanza legislators. While the ruling party initially attempted to prevent the special session, they ultimately provided quorum to participate in the debate. Meanwhile, protests have occurred in various regions, including Corrientes, where organizations and families have marched to demand urgent action regarding disability benefits and funding.
