Argentine Peso Drops Below Value of Roblox and Fortnite Virtual Currencies
The Argentine peso, already weakened by years of inflation, has hit a historic low that makes it worth less than popular video‑game currencies. Calculations show one unit of Roblox’s virtual coin, Robux, can purchase between 15 and 25 pesos, meaning a single Robux is roughly 18‑23 times more valuable than the peso. Likewise, a Fortnite V‑Buck, which costs about US$0.011, is valued at roughly sixteen times the peso, whose current exchange rate is around US$0.00067 per peso.
These comparisons illustrate the severity of Argentina’s currency crisis, with the peso having lost about 99.8 % of its value since 2009. While the virtual coins have no real economic role, their higher nominal price highlights the loss of purchasing power for ordinary Argentines and draws international attention to the nation’s ongoing inflationary spiral.
