Argentine players win four FIH Hockey Stars Awards
Four Argentine athletes have been honored at the FIH Hockey Stars Awards following a highly successful season. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) recognized Sofía Cairo as the Player of the Year, marking a significant milestone for the 23-year-old forward of Las Leonas. Her selection follows Argentina’s 2026 World Cup victory and a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
In the men’s category, Tomás Domene became the first player from Los Leones to be named Player of the Year, following his scoring performances in the Pro League and the World Cup. Additionally, Cristina Cosentino was distinguished as Goalkeeper of the Year, becoming the first Argentine goalkeeper to receive the honor, while Zoé Díaz won the Rising Star award for the second consecutive year.
The awards, held in Doha, Qatar, celebrate the achievements of the Argentine national teams, which secured a third world title for the women and a historic bronze medal for the men.
