Argentine Navy removes ten personnel amid corruption probe
The Argentine Navy has launched an internal purge following the discovery of a massive corruption scheme involving the fraudulent disbursement of salaries and per diems. Admiral Juan Carlos Romay, Chief of the General Staff, has removed ten military personnel from their positions as part of an ongoing investigation into 645 irregular payments.
The investigation, which is being handled by Federal Criminal and Correctional Court No. 2, has identified approximately 981 million Argentine pesos in unauthorized transfers. The scheme, which occurred between July 2022 and January 2026, reportedly involved 23 beneficiaries, including ten military members and thirteen civilians.
Defense Minister Carlos Presti has ordered the advancement of disciplinary councils, which could result in the permanent dismissal of those involved. The Navy is conducting internal proceedings to determine the full extent of the responsibility and to protect the institution's integrity.
