Buenos Aires police disrupt plot to assassinate prosecutor María Paula Hertrig
Authorities in Buenos Aires have disrupted a criminal plot by two inmates to assassinate prosecutor María Paula Hertrig, the official in charge of the UFI de Boulogne. The suspects, identified as Martín Darío Rettori, 42, and Ariel Ernesto Libertini, 47, were reportedly organizing the attack from different penitentiary units: Unit 31 in Florencio Varela and Unit 21 in Campana.
Investigations by the DDI of San Isidro revealed that the men used WhatsApp to coordinate threats and share information regarding the prosecutor's movements and her family. Evidence suggests the suspects possessed photographs of Hertrig and her relatives, and had even used ChatGPT in an attempt to obtain a photograph of her.
The two men had previously been arrested for their involvement in a criminal organization specializing in 'entraderas'—robberies where criminals duplicate vehicle keys from parking garages to gain access to homes. Despite being held in separate high-security facilities, they maintained communication to plan retaliation for the arrests they had triggered.
