Argentine port sectors see significant shifts in control and activity

The Argentine port sector is experiencing major administrative and operational changes. In Tierra del Fuego, the national government has assumed control over the administration of the Port of Ushuaia as of January 2026. This move places an estimated $22 billion annual economic movement under national intervention, impacting decisions regarding investments, provider contracts, and economic conditions for a strategic hub that serves cruise ships, cargo, and fishing vessels.

In Santa Fe, the public port system reported moving over 3.3 million tons between January and September 2026. The Port of Rosario saw a 22.4% year-on-year increase, reaching its best record in five years. Additionally, in Villa Constitución, Terminal I has been awarded to resume operations after nearly seven decades of inactivity. The provincial government is also proceeding with a tender to concession the Container and General Cargo Terminal of the Port of Santa Fe to attract investment and reduce logistics costs.
