Argentine producers combat Borreria spp weed expansion

Agricultural producers and experts from Aapresid and INTA are addressing the expansion of Borreria spp, a weed affecting nearly 5 million hectares across 103 departments in Argentina. The issue is particularly critical in northern Córdoba, the NOA, and the NEA regions.

Research conducted by Aapresid, INTA, CONICET, and various universities indicates that the weed's persistence is driven by its reproductive versatility. Plants can regenerate through both seeds and underground structures like rhizomes and xylopodia. This biological trait means that control methods focusing solely on seed emergence may inadvertently encourage vegetative regeneration, which can be mistaken for herbicide resistance.
