Argentine provinces announce $1.5 bn hospital investment and management reforms

The government of La Pampa Province, led by Governor Sergio Ziliotto, approved public purchases worth about AR$1.506 billion to equip and upgrade hospitals in General Pico, Santa Isabel and Intendente Alvear. The spending includes AR$421 million for imaging equipment at the new Hospital del Bicentenario in General Pico, AR$368 million for medical equipment and AR$218 million for furniture at the Santa Isabel health center, and AR$8 million for the Intendente Alvear hospital.

In the neighboring province of Corrientes, Deputy Ricardo Caíto Leconte presented a bill to create a Provincial System of Modernisation and Professional Management for public hospitals. The proposal would transfer day‑to‑day administration of 14 major hospitals to non‑profit foundations while keeping state ownership, guaranteeing universal free care and preserving the Ministry of Health’s regulatory role. The model is inspired by the Instituto de Cardiología Juana Francisca Cabral in Corrientes capital and aims to make the province a reference for public hospital management.

Both initiatives seek to strengthen Argentina’s public‑health infrastructure through substantial investment and new governance structures.
