Argentine provinces push ahead with major road upgrades

Governor Raúl Jalil of Catamarca confirmed negotiations with the national government to transfer administration of National Route 38 to the province. The move would give Catamarca responsibility for maintenance and improvement works on the key corridor linking localities across the region. In the same announcement, Jalil disclosed plans for a new hostel in Balcozna and the continuation of cement deliveries to municipalities under a pact with Loma Negra.

The Mendoza provincial government reported that work on the New Panamericana – Ruta Provincial 82 – a 22 km stretch toward Cacheuta is about 50 % complete. The project, funded with a US$40 million loan from the Inter‑American Development Bank, includes resurfacing, new roundabouts, bridges, cycle lanes, hydraulic safety structures and a broader urban renewal of Cacheuta. Officials expect the works to be finished in roughly one year.
