Argentine rapper Milo J champions native identity at New York LAMC panel

Nineteen‑year‑old Argentine rapper Milo J (Camilo Joaquín Villarruel) has emerged as a leading voice in Latin music, earning a Latin Grammy nomination and thirteen Gardel awards. He recently performed at NPR’s Tiny Desk and released the album “La vida era más corta” (2025), blending Argentine folk with rap while speaking about a depressive period he experienced while recording.

At the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) in New York, Milo J joined fellow Argentine artist Trueno for a discussion moderated by Billboard’s Leila Cobo. Both emphasized that their success stems from staying true to Argentine identity, language and cultural symbols such as soccer. They advised emerging musicians to protect their voice, build supportive communities, and navigate contracts and legal matters. The panel also touched on cautious use of artificial intelligence in music production.
