Argentine scientific workers march against layoffs and budget cuts

Workers and community members from the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI), and the National University of San Martín (UNSAM) held a torchlight march to protest against the dismantling of scientific and technological institutions in Argentina.

Protesters denounced the dismissal of 60 CNEA workers and criticized the Ministry of Deregulation of the State, led by Federico Sturzenegger, for the perceived emptying of strategic scientific bodies. Demonstrators reported that salaries have decreased by approximately 40% to 45% since November 2023. The march, held under the slogan ‘Without Malvinas there is no sovereignty, without science, work and education, there is none either!’, aimed to defend the country's scientific, technological, and industrial sovereignty.
