Argentine Sea biodiversity lecture highlights deep-sea exploration

Dr. Cristina Damborenea, a principal researcher at CONICET, delivered a lecture to first-year students at Liceo Víctor Mercante regarding the biodiversity of aquatic environments and the importance of exploring the depths of the Argentine Sea.

During the session, Damborenea emphasized the value of scientific expeditions in expanding knowledge of territories that remain largely unexplored. She shared her experiences as a member of the Argentine Deep Sea Study Group (GEMPA) and detailed previous research campaigns.

As part of the presentation, Damborenea announced an upcoming scientific campaign for 2027 titled Talud Continental V. This expedition will focus on exploring the Ameghino and Almirante Brown submarine canyons located off the coast of Chubut province.
