Argentine tea producers expand regional certification and international exports

Argentine tea producers are implementing strategies to strengthen the commercial positioning of regional tea through origin certification and international market expansion.

Four new companies have undergone technical audits to join the ‘Té Argentino’ Geographical Indication (GI). This system, which currently includes 14 companies, protects the unique characteristics of tea produced in Misiones and northeastern Corrientes. The GI links the product to its specific agroecological territory, enhancing traceability and competitiveness in markets that value origin.

Simultaneously, the Cooperativa Agrícola de la Colonia Liebig Ltda. is expanding its presence in the Chinese market. The cooperative, which supports 135 agricultural families across Corrientes and Misiones, is investing in processing and packaging to compete in China. This initiative aims to increase foreign exchange earnings and reduce dependence on traditional markets by exporting processed goods rather than just raw materials.
