Argentine tourist dies of sudden illness on Parghelia beach in Italy

On 27 July 2026 a tourist from Argentina suffered a sudden medical emergency, likely a heart attack, while at the La Grazia beach resort in Parghelia, Vibo Valentia, Calabria. The incident was reported around 14:30 and prompted an immediate response from the Italian Coast Guard, a sea‑borne crew from the Port Authority of Tropea, and a land patrol led by commander Giuseppe Durante. Ambulance personnel and a rescue helicopter performed prolonged cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but the victim was pronounced dead on the shoreline.

This death is the third in an eight‑day span of sudden on‑shore or in‑water illnesses along the same stretch of the Vibonese coast, raising concerns about heat‑related health risks for tourists during the peak summer season. The investigation of the event has been assigned to the Capitaneria di Porto di Tropea.
