Argentine towns of Virasoro and Olavarría launch flood‑prevention projects ahead of El Niño

The municipality of Virasoro, led by Mayor Guillermo de la Cruz, is expanding and lengthening its main drainage channels, cleaning sewers and smaller waterways, and urging residents to keep streets clear to improve runoff ahead of the expected El Niño weather pattern.

In Olavarría, Mayor Maximiliano Wesner convened a technical briefing with civil‑defense officials and municipal departments to coordinate a preventive plan. The meeting reviewed forecasts, outlined training, evacuation‑center preparation and inter‑agency cooperation to mitigate possible heavy‑rain impacts linked to El Niño and La Niña.
