Argentine university workers strike over salary and funding

University workers in Argentina, including faculty and non-teaching staff, carried out a national strike on Tuesday, September 8, to protest against current salary levels and demand the full implementation of the University Financing Law.

Labor unions have rejected the government's recent salary proposal of a 3% increase for September and October, describing it as insufficient. Instead, unions are demanding a 31.2% salary recomposition to compensate for accumulated inflation and loss of purchasing power.

The conflict is expected to escalate with a planned schedule of actions, including public classes on Tuesday, September 15, and a demonstration in front of the Palacio Pizzurno on September 17. Furthermore, a fifth Federal University March is being organized for the first week of October to continue the struggle for increased budget and improved working conditions.
