Argentine University Teachers Announce Week-Long Strike, First Semester at Risk

University faculty groups in Argentina plan a nationwide strike from 26 to 30 May. The action, led by the National Federation of University Teachers (CONADU) and supported by regional unions, seeks the full implementation of the University Financing Law, salary raises and a larger budget for education and science.

The shutdown will affect most public universities, including the National University of Córdoba, Technological National University, and the University of Buenos Aires. Officials estimate that the strike will jeopardise the completion of first‑semester courses, adding to roughly 20 days of missed classes from earlier protests. At UBA, the data‑science and computer‑science programs—totaling about 3,000 students—have already been delayed.

The demand follows a previous week‑long strike on 27 April‑2 May and a massive federal university march on 12 May. The government has not yet responded to the unions’ calls, and the courts are expected to rule on the law’s enforcement.
