Argentina volunteer firefighters to hold nationwide siren protest
More than 1,000 volunteer fire departments across Argentina will conduct a simultaneous “sirenazo” (siren blast) on Thursday, September 10, at 10:00 a.m. to protest the national government's withholding of legally mandated funds.
The protest, organized by the Council of Federations of Volunteer Firefighters and 29 provincial federations, targets the non-distribution of approximately 59 billion pesos. These funds, which include a remainder from the 2025 fiscal year, are established by Law 25.054 and are derived from a 0.5% contribution from insurance premiums.
In addition to the financial claims, the firefighters are demanding improvements regarding emergency response on federally conceded highways and the full implementation of Law 27.629. They seek mandatory agreements with highway concessionaires to cover equipment costs and damages incurred during interventions. Despite the protest, emergency services will remain active and operational.
