Argentine wheat yields face losses due to adverse weather
Adverse weather conditions, including frosts in September and mid-October, are expected to cause wheat yield losses of between 10% and 15% in Argentina. The impact is most significant in early plantings and short cycles across Entre Ríos, southern Santa Fe, Buenos Aires, and La Pampa.
In addition to temperature fluctuations, reduced solar radiation and lower photothermal quotients during critical growth stages are affecting yields. While recent rainfall improved water availability, it has not significantly altered the status of the crops. High ambient humidity has also encouraged the spread of foliar diseases, prompting preventive treatments against fusariosis.
In the northern regions, persistent drizzle is delaying the start of the harvest and raising concerns regarding grain quality. Meanwhile, corn planting has reached 39.8% of the projected 8.4 million hectares, though low temperatures and rain continue to delay field work in western and southern sectors.
