Argentinos por la Educación report reveals primary school learning gaps

A report by the organization Argentinos por la Educación, known as the 2025 School Results Index (IRE), reveals a significant gap in Argentine primary education. While 94% of students who started first grade in 2020 reached sixth grade by 2025 without repeating or dropping out, only 50% completed their studies both on time and with satisfactory learning levels.

Regarding core subjects, 79% of students achieved expected, satisfactory, or advanced results in Language, while only 58% reached those levels in Mathematics. The data indicates a direct correlation between educational outcomes and provincial socioeconomic status. For instance, the completion rate in the City of Buenos Aires stands at 67%, whereas in Chaco, it drops to 33%. Santa Fe reports a national average of approximately 50%.

Experts suggest these findings should guide new educational policies, specifically focusing on reinforcing mathematical learning to bridge the existing gap between school attendance and actual knowledge acquisition.
