Arghillà redevelopment: 5 million euro plan approved for Reggio Calabria district

The Italian government has approved a 5 million euro redevelopment plan for Arghillà, a district in the northern periphery of Reggio Calabria. The agreement was signed by Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, Prefect Clara Vaccaro, and Mayor Francesco Cannizzaro, with participation from Calabria Region President Roberto Occhiuto.

The extraordinary program consists of five strategic intervention lines aimed at improving urban security, mobility, public services, and quality of life. Key measures include the recovery of local school facilities, enhanced video surveillance, and an environmental remediation operation with 1.5 million euros allocated for cleanup. Additionally, the plan includes 1 million euros for roads, sidewalks, and mobility improvements.

A significant component of the agreement is the restoration of a permanent State Police presence in the neighborhood. This involves renovating a designated building to allow for a stable law enforcement outpost, a move supported by local unions and officials to combat long-standing issues of social decay and insecurity.
