Argonne and University of Illinois develop hybrid quantum circuit system
Researchers from Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign have developed the first hybrid circuit system that couples propagating spin waves in magnetic materials with superconducting circuits. This breakthrough demonstrates a proof of concept for using magnetic spins to interact with superconducting resonators, which are standard platforms in quantum computing.
Spin waves, or ripples in the magnetic state of a material, possess the ability to support the flow of information in a single direction. By coupling these waves with superconducting circuits, researchers aim to develop on-chip microwave isolators. These devices would allow microwave signals to travel in one direction, preventing information from leaking back to its source. This technology could eventually contribute to advancements in faster computing, enhanced sensing, and more secure communication.
