Argyll and Bute Council seeks cost recovery for leisure centre repairs

Argyll and Bute Council has filed claim letters against parties involved in the design, supervision, and construction of the Helensburgh leisure centre to recover costs following storm damage. The facility has been closed since January 2025 after Storm Eowyn caused significant roof damage.

Councillor Ross Moreland reported that the repair process has proven more complex than initially anticipated. As internal stripping progressed, contractors identified additional issues that were not previously visible, requiring further investigation and remediation. While the roof is expected to be completed by October 2026 with enhanced resilience measures, internal works are projected to continue until spring 2027.
