Ariana Coto sets personal best in 100m freestyle

Costa Rican para-athlete Ariana Coto achieved a new personal best in the 100-meter freestyle during the Pan Pacs Swimming 2026 tournament in Walnut, California. Coto recorded a time of 1:28.68, improving upon her previous record of 1:30.08.

Following her freestyle success, Coto competed in the 50-meter butterfly but did not improve her personal record in that event. Her coach, Fernando García, noted that the close timing of the two events likely contributed to fatigue. Coto is scheduled to compete in the 400-meter freestyle (S7 class) this Saturday.

Fellow Costa Rican swimmer Sara Miranda is also participating in the tournament. Miranda is set to debut in the 100-meter breaststroke on Saturday, followed by the 100-meter backstroke and 50-meter freestyle on Sunday. The Costa Rican delegation is supported by the National Paralympic Committee of Costa Rica and the Costa Rican Institute of Sport and Recreation.
