Ariana Grande to Step Back from Public Life After Tour, Cancels London Musical

Pop star Ariana Grande announced she will take a temporary break from public life after her Eternal Sunshine Tour ends on 1 September in London. She said the decision was planned long in advance, not a reactive or impulsive move, and stems from “endless, ongoing public scrutiny” of her appearance following the release of her eighth album Petal and its music video.

Grande also confirmed she will withdraw from the 2027 West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George at the Barbican Theatre, where she was to co‑star with Jonathan Bailey. She described the tour as “the most healing, beautiful, and special experience” of her career, emphasized her love for fans, and stressed the need for personal boundaries and rest.

In statements delivered on stage in Chicago, she reiterated that the break is an “empowered, thoughtful” choice, and that “human beings can need a break sometimes.” The production will continue with a replacement performer.
