Ariana Grande’s ‘God Is a Woman’ was nearly recorded by Beyoncé and Jay-Z

Songwriter and producer Ilya Salmanzadeh revealed that the Ariana Grande hit ‘God Is a Woman’ was originally considered for Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Speaking on Ross Golan’s ‘And the Writer Is…’ podcast, Salmanzadeh explained that the track was shopped to several artists before Grande claimed it for her 2018 album, Sweetener.

While the song was initially envisioned as a collaboration featuring a rapper on the verses, Grande insisted on performing the track solo. Salmanzadeh noted that Grande wrote the verses, pre-chorus, and complex harmonies in a single day. The song eventually became one of Grande’s most successful tracks, peaking at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning four-times platinum certification.
