Arica honors indigenous women with ASÁT’AP 2026 recognition

In Arica, a ceremony was held to present the ASÁT’AP 2026 recognition to eight indigenous women from the Aymara and Quechua peoples. The initiative, led by the National Service of Cultural Heritage (SERPAT) through the National Sub-directorate of Original Peoples and Chilean Afro-descendant Tribes (SUBPOA), aims to highlight the role of indigenous women in preserving and transmitting ancestral knowledge, languages, traditions, and healing practices.

Local officials, including Hernán Zamora, regional minister of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage, and Greissy Cofré, regional minister of Women and Gender Equality, emphasized the fundamental role these women play as guardians of their territories' memory and artistic expressions. The ASÁT’AP recognition has been awarded annually since 2015 as part of the Indigenous and Afro-descendant Cultural Revitalization Program.
