Arica inaugurates modern Plaza Gabriela Mistral for families

The municipality of Arica officially opened the new Plaza Gabriela Mistral in a ceremony attended by Mayor Orlando Vargas Pizarro, council members and dozens of local residents. The plaza, developed by the municipal planning secretariat (SECPLAN), features playgrounds, a soft‑surface area, shaded zones, universal access paths, a dedicated pet area and LED lighting, aiming to provide a safe, inclusive gathering place for children, seniors and families.

Mayor Vargas highlighted the project as a campaign promise fulfilled, stressing that the space will help rebuild community ties and improve quality of life. Councilors praised the transformation of a previously neglected area, noting the reduction of delinquent activity and the collaborative effort among municipal officials and neighborhood groups.

The opening underscores the city's broader initiative to revitalize public neighborhoods and strengthen social cohesion through improved urban infrastructure.
