Chile's Arica Region ships 23+ tons of tomatoes to Argentina

Subsecretary of Agriculture Francesco Venezian led the loading of more than 23  tonnes (23,324 kg) of tomatoes from the Arica and Parinacota Region for export to Argentina. The cargo comprised 28 pallets, 1,372 boxes and marks the start of a new export season for the region's key crop.

The shipment, witnessed by regional presidential delegate Cristian Sayes and agriculture seremi Jorge Heiden, reflects sustained growth since the Argentine market opened in 2024. Export volumes rose from 5.4 million kg in 2024 to 8.5 million kg in 2025, with a total of 150 shipments to date. The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) performed 374 origin inspections and provided technical assistance throughout the process.

Officials highlighted the high sanitary standards, the boost to local employment and the potential to expand into Brazil and Paraguay. The mission also included a review of the Cuya sanitary barrier to prevent the spread of pests such as fruit flies.
