ARIDGE and UAE to launch world's first flying car regulatory sandbox

ARIDGE (formerly XPENG AEROHT) has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah to establish the world’s first regulatory sandbox for personal flying cars. Conducted under the oversight of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the initiative aims to create a controlled environment for testing advanced air mobility (AAM) technologies.

The program will involve flight validation under desert conditions, including testing aircraft performance against sand and heat. A key component of the agreement is the planning of a demonstration route connecting Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah to assess the requirements for future inter-emirate air mobility services, such as tourism, short urban flights, and emergency rescue operations.

This partnership marks the first time a Chinese flying car company has entered a national-level regulatory sandbox in the Middle East. ARIDGE intends to use the sandbox to refine flight procedures and airspace management within the low-altitude sector.
