Arif Ahmet Denizolgun death investigation leads to multiple indictments

The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has issued indictments involving six suspects in the investigation into the 2016 death of former Transport Minister Arif Ahmet Denizolgun. The investigation, which follows a recent grave exhumation to determine the true cause of death, has resulted in three separate legal proceedings.

One indictment targets private doctor Nurettin Demirkol for perjury, with a requested sentence of up to four years. Another targets three officials from the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK)—identified as İ. Ç., Ç. K., and S. Ç.—for forgery of official documents, with prison terms requested up to eight years. A third indictment involves Ayşe Gülderen Denizolgun Kuriş and Hilmi Tuna Kuriş, charged with destroying, concealing, or altering evidence. This charge specifically concerns a mobile phone belonging to the late minister that was allegedly lost or destroyed after being handed over for estate proceedings.

Investigators noted significant discrepancies in HTS records and witness statements, including contradictions regarding the presence of individuals at the scene and the timing of emergency calls. The investigation into the suspicious death remains ongoing.
