Arilje man arrested for suspected murder of friend in Ivanjica

A 34-year-old man, identified as P. M., has been arrested in Arilje for the suspected premeditated murder of his long-time friend, 41-year-old Mileta P. The incident occurred in the village of Opaljenik near Ivanjica.

According to investigative sources, the victim and the suspect had spent Monday evening together at a local tavern. After the victim returned home around midnight, the suspect allegedly entered the victim's residence and shot him in the head while he was sleeping. The lack of signs of a struggle suggests the victim was caught completely unaware.

Following the shooting, the suspect reportedly stayed at his sister's house in Opaljenik before returning to his home in Arilje. The victim's body was discovered on Tuesday morning by neighbors who were concerned when he failed to show up for scheduled work in the fields. The suspect is currently in custody for 48 hours facing charges of aggravated murder, which carries a potential life sentence. The motive for the killing remains unclear.
