Poland implements new agricultural aid and regulatory measures
The Polish agricultural sector is undergoing significant regulatory and economic shifts. The Council of Ministers has adopted regulations to expand aid for farmers affected by extreme weather. This includes support for losses caused by spring frosts, hail, and heavy rain, with payouts ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 PLN per hectare depending on the severity of damage. Additionally, a specific mechanism will assist fruit and vegetable producers following extreme heat in June 2026.
To streamline the process, the government is moving the management of the “Report agricultural damage” application to the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture (ARiMR). New rules also change how crop insurance is verified for receiving preferential 0.5% loans, shifting the assessment timing to provide more flexibility.
In terms of production and technology, Minister of Agriculture Stefan Krajewski has addressed the decline in pig farming, promising subsidies for sows to protect food sovereignty. Meanwhile, new EU regulations on New Genomic Techniques (NGT), set for implementation in 2028, aim to introduce more resilient crop varieties, though concerns remain regarding increased seed costs for farmers.
Financial support programs are also active for rising production costs, including subsidies for fertilizers and diesel, while insurance providers like Generali and Warta are launching new seasonal offers adapted to updated legal requirements and weather risks.
