Arinze Nwogba remanded for allegedly impersonating JAMB registrar
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Arinze Nwogba at the Kuje Correctional Centre following allegations that he impersonated the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Segun Aina, to defraud the public.
Nwogba pleaded not guilty to six counts filed by the Inspector General of Police. The prosecution alleges that Nwogba used Aina’s name and photographs on platforms such as WhatsApp and Truecaller to solicit money. In one instance, investigators claim the suspect offered a contract to supply 200 HP laptops for a Federal Ministry of Education digitization programme, requesting payments intended for various officials.
Justice Salim Ibrahim has scheduled October 7 for a ruling on Nwogba’s bail application and October 19 for the commencement of the trial. The alleged activities involve violations of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act.
