Ariowitsch-Haus hosts exhibition on Nazi-era deportations

The Ariowitsch-Haus in Leipzig has opened an exhibition titled ‘Festgehalten. Verschleppt aus Deutschland 1938-1945’, featuring historical photographs documenting the deportations of Jewish people, Sinti and Roma, and victims of Nazi ‘euthanasia’ programs.

The exhibition is based on the ‘#LastSeen’ research project by the Arolsen Archives, which has been securing and researching photographic evidence from nearly 70 German cities since 2021. These images highlight the public nature of the persecutions, showing that deportations often occurred in broad daylight in front of perpetrators and bystanders.

This event is part of the ‘Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony 2026’. The exhibition will remain on display in Leipzig until September 14.
