Aris Mukiyono indicted for Rp4.09 billion corruption
Aris Mukiyono, the former Head of the East Java Energy and Mineral Resources Department, has been indicted for extortion and receiving approximately Rp4.09 billion in gratifications. The indictment was read during a hearing at the Surabaya Corruption Court in Sidoarjo.
Prosecutors allege the funds were obtained from the mining, geology, and groundwater sectors to expedite the processing of mining permits and Groundwater Exploitation Permits (IPAT). The prosecution stated these payments were not official fees as regulated by law.
Two other defendants are involved in the case: former Groundwater Exploitation Team Leader Hermawan and former Head of the Geology and Groundwater Division Ertika Dinawati. Defense counsel for Mukiyono stated they would not file an exception and will proceed to the evidentiary stage of the trial.
