Arizona Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love joins crowded backfield

The Arizona Cardinals selected Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and signed him to a four‑year, $53 million contract, the largest rookie deal for a running back. Veteran running back Tyler Allgeier, who joined the Cardinals after leaving Atlanta, said the competition with Love is “great” and that they are building a close relationship in training camp. He added that the depth‑filled backfield, which also includes James Conner returning from a season‑ending ankle injury and Trey Benson, will push everyone to improve.

Electronic Arts’ Madden NFL 27 ratings list Love as the top offensive rookie, giving him an overall rating of 82 and a speed rating of 94, the highest among all rookies. Love previously rushed for 1,035 yards as a rookie with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022. Head coach Mike LaFleur, in his first year, emphasized transparent communication and equal reps for the backs during camp.
