Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd challenges NCAA eligibility rules

Arizona Wildcats coach Tommy Lloyd has expressed significant frustration regarding the eligibility status of forward RJ Godfrey, which remains unresolved due to ongoing legal proceedings in Georgia.

Godfrey is part of a group of student-athletes pursuing lawsuits following NCAA rule changes that allow five years of competition over a five-year period. However, these new rules did not grandfather in the high school class of 2022. Godfrey, who previously played for Clemson and Georgia, is seeking an additional season of eligibility.

While a Georgia judge initially granted an injunction allowing Godfrey to play, the Georgia Court of Appeals issued a stay for the NCAA, leaving his status in limbo. Lloyd argued during the Big 12 media summit that the current situation is inconsistent, noting that players in Godfrey's position should be eligible under the same standards applied to other classes.
