Arizona Diamondbacks evaluate Ketel Marte's future

The Arizona Diamondbacks face organizational decisions regarding star second baseman Ketel Marte following concerns over his maturity and unexplained absences. During the August stretch run, Marte missed the start of a series at Fenway Park, leading to frustration within the clubhouse and comments from manager Torey Lovullo. While Marte was briefly placed on the restricted list and later the 10-day injured list for a knee issue, his absences raised questions about team protocol and player accountability.

Manager Torey Lovullo, who recently signed a two-year contract extension, indicated a shift in his management style regarding Marte. Lovullo stated that he intends to stop ‘protecting’ the player and will instead require him to advocate for himself. General Manager Mike Hazen noted that the decision to retain Lovullo was independent of Marte’s future with the team.
