Ketel Marte expected to return to Diamondbacks next week

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte is expected to return to the lineup as early as August 31 during a series against the Philadelphia Phillies. His return follows a period of uncertainty after he failed to report to the team for a game in Boston on August 17, which initially led to him being placed on the MLB restricted list due to personal matters.

Marte was subsequently moved to the 10-day injured list after an MRI in Phoenix revealed inflammation in his left knee. While undergoing rehabilitation at Salt River Fields, Marte drew attention after being spotted at a Scottsdale casino during a Diamondbacks home game. Manager Torey Lovullo defended the player, stating that Marte had broken no team rules and is a “grown man” entitled to make his own decisions.

The Diamondbacks are currently in a playoff race for a National League wild-card spot, making Marte’s return critical to their postseason push. Marte has begun batting practice and is following a structured recovery plan to ensure he is healthy upon his return.
