Ketel Marte placed on restricted list after missing Diamondbacks game

Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte has been placed on the MLB restricted list after failing to show up for a game against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The move occurred shortly before the game began on Monday, causing the team to adjust its lineup last minute.

Manager Torey Lovullo stated that Marte is dealing with a “personal issue” and expressed concern for his well-being, noting that communication with the player has been difficult. While the restricted list is typically used for non-injury matters such as personal or legal issues, reports indicate Marte has returned to Phoenix to undergo an MRI on his left knee to evaluate a potential injury.

This marks the second time in recent seasons that Marte has been placed on the restricted list following an unexplained absence. The Diamondbacks, currently in a National League Wild Card race, will rely on infielder Jose Fernandez to fill the roster vacancy.
