Arizona election integrity concerns raised over felon voter data
Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap has expressed concerns regarding election integrity in Arizona, stating that felons may be able to vote in upcoming elections because his office has not received updated federal conviction data. Heap claims that Secretary of State Adrian Fontes has failed to provide the necessary data required to remove ineligible voters from the rolls.
Secretary Fontes has denied these allegations, suggesting that the delay is caused by a bottleneck at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). However, Heap reported that the DOJ informed him the information was not accurate and that files had already been provided to the Secretary of State’s office. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Arizona also stated that it has regularly provided federal felony conviction reports to the Secretary of State’s office.
