Arizona officials debate voter roll integrity and report withholding
Arizona election officials are addressing concerns regarding voter roll integrity following a large-scale investigation and allegations of withheld data. A Maricopa County Attorney’s Office investigation into 60 potential cases of non-citizen voting identified only eight instances, which officials noted spanned several decades. Both Secretary of State Adrian Fontes and Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap characterized the findings as evidence that election safeguards and oversight processes are functioning correctly.
Separately, Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap has accused Secretary Fontes of failing to provide updated federal felony reports for approximately one year. Heap claims that the Department of Justice has provided these reports, but Fontes has not distributed them to county recorders, resulting in the loss of three quarterly reports containing data on ineligible voters. Fontes has not confirmed the allegations of withholding data, and the Department of Justice recently issued its second quarter 2026 federal felony report to the Secretary of State's office.
